Our troop was born in 1974, originally chartered for a few short months by the Allendale Junior High School PTA . Soon thereafter, Troop 483 moved to the Berg Road Fire Hall, chartered by the Reserve Hose Fire Company with the approval and support of the District #3 Fire Commissioners. Troop 483 has been fortunate to have a long and close partnership with both the Reserve Hose Fire Company and District #3 ever since.
During that first meeting in 1974, we had three Scouts signed up, but had only one Scout attend our first meeting (the other two were ill). Since then we have grown Troop 483 to roughly 65 scouts and a full compliment of trained youth and adult advisors to provide the leadership for a successful program.
The troop's original scoutmaster, Army Leonetti, served from the troop's formation through 2002 when he accepted a prominent role in the Greater Niagara Frontier Council, managing the leadership training and Philmont High Adventure expeditions. Upon Army's departure, Gary McKee stepped into the role as scoutmaster, a role that he continues to serve with a dedicated and well trained support team of assistant scoutmasters and committee members.
Troop 483 has attended summer camp every year, Philmont Scout Ranch over 12 times, twice to the Florida Sea Base, Jamborees, canoe trips and countless number of weekend camps and adventures.
We are incredibly proud of the over 100 young men that have earned the rank of Eagle, Boy Scouting's highest rank.
Service is a major part of the troop's contribution to the community. Our Scouts have always stepped forward when help is needed. Whether it be flags for Memorial Day, telethons, with clearing hydrants, and Scouting for Food. We don't just say the Scout Oath at every meeting, we live it every day.
Troop 483 meets at the Berg Road Fire Hall in West Seneca on Tuesday evenings at 7 PM during the school year. (Otherwise, you can find us hiking, camping or canoeing someplace far from home.)
